Artist Residency at Return To Freedom

This September/October I’ll be undertaking an artist residency at Return to Freedom wild horse sanctuary in California. My time there will be a chance to immerse myself in the presence of the wild horses and the land they roam, while exploring how art can support conservation and advocacy.

I’ll be documenting my days through sketching, writing, film, and photography, creating the foundations for a new body of work and a short film to share on my return. I’ll also be developing my Postcards from the Wild Horse project as part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness for wild horse protection.

This series of mini paintings, Postcards From The Wild Horse, has been created in advance of my upcoming artist residency at Return to Freedom.

They mark the starting point of a larger conservation project — Each piece carries the voice of the herd — a reflection on freedom, loss, and survival — and invites the viewer to consider the uncertain future facing America’s wild mustangs. Like postcards sent from the land itself, they are fragments of witness and memory, asking us to keep the wild in wild horses

Alongside making, I’ll be spending time simply sitting with the horses, learning from the sanctuary team, and allowing space for new ideas and connections to emerge.

This residency is both a creative journey and a way of listening — to the horses, the landscape, and the urgent story of wild horse conservation.

I would love you to follow along on my journey, I’ll be sharing stories/photos and documenting my trip as it unfolds…..
