My love for horses is the reason I began ….my responsibility towards them is the reason I continue

My work explores the horse beyond its physical form — as a language for instinct, freedom, connection and belonging.

Working between observation and abstraction, I create paintings that seek to capture the presence of the horse, the energy of the herd and our connection with nature and our relationship with the wild.

A month immersed in the wild horses of Return to Freedom, USA

In September 2025, Jane spent a month living and working as Artist in Residence alongside the wild horses of Return to Freedom's Wild Horse Sanctuary in California.

The experience became the beginning of a new body of work exploring freedom, instinct, connection and belonging — and a deeper understanding of what it means to make work in response to the wild.

Among 100 Wild Horses

  The land was bathed in a rose–gold glow. A stillness had settled over the herd, broken only by the rhythmic sound of horses munching. I stood motionless, soaking up the wonder of it all. My camera hung dormant around my neck — the time for taking photos had passed. Soon I would be leaving this special place, this vast 2,000-acre landscape where I had spent weeks walking amongst more than 100 wild horses and burros.

What happened next took my breath away……..
